  • SURFNET conducts 100Gbps international trial over 622 km of IEEAF donated fiber from Amsterdam to Hamburg. This fiber, provided to IEEAF by EuroFiber, also supports other international links for both production and experimental R&E networking (the Global Quilt), including GLORIAD connectivity to Russia, China and Korea, as well as 10 Gbps links to NORDUNET and Russia.   • IEEAF and GEO sign Memorandum of Understanding with USAID, to form an alliance to facilitate investment in world-class regional telecommunications exchanges, data facilities, and science and technology parks in sub-Saharan Africa. October 31, 2008
  • IEEAF - UbuntuNet Eastern Cluster Design Workshop, held in Nairobi, Kenya, 6 7 October 2008. Network Design Workshop, hosted by KENET and organized by the UbuntuNet Alliance for R & E Networking, IEEAF, and the Pacific Northwest Gigapop. Participants included the following African NRENS: KENET, RENU, RwEdNet, TERNET, MAREN, SUIN and Eb@le.
  • IEEAF and the Ubuntunet Alliance have signed an MoU to work together to promote research and education networking in Africa based on optical fibre and any alternative access technologies, and to work together toward building partnerships at both regional and international levels. May 20, 2008
